2018 Season
A Year in Review
Ezekiel Elliott and Rosies Riders take the crown
'There can be only one.' This season, that was Rosies Riders. They finished off 2018 with a 144.35 to 113.45 victory over The Scullys, giving them a 12 - 4 final record. Coach Brent rose had a hand in the impressive record, since he was the 2nd best gameday coach in the league.
When it came to coaching though, nobody was better than Coach Greg Watson. They stood out as the best decision-maker this year, giving their squad 42.1 more points than the experts would have. That was 103.2 points better than Coach Carey Belyea, who was the worst coach in the league. He ended up costing his team the game in week four with his lineup decisions, which were 33.5 points worse than the experts that week.
Coach Dom Vidoni didn't need to do a lot of coaching when it came to their wide receivers, who put up a league-leading 40.38 points per game. Meanwhile, Coach Geoff Bourgeault could only dream about good wide receiver play this year, as CapCity Dragoons' wide receivers were the worst in the league, coming up with only 18.43 points per game. Demaryius Thomas shares a big part of the blame for that lackluster group's performance, averaging 8.1 points in his 10 starts for CapCity Dragoons this year.
Salt Water Cowboys had lots of positional problems, which drove them into the ditch at 5 - 10. That was the worst mark in the league. The fact that Salt Water Cowboys had the 2nd hardest schedule this year (measured by points against) certainly had something to do with that.
Catching Fire
Key Stat: Pigskin Wizards Regular Season Wins: 9 Pigskin Wizards Wins During weeks 1-7: 6
As Coach Jason Ferguson looks back on the season, he will no doubt fondly remember weeks 1 to 7 when Pigskin Wizards looked Like world-beaters. They went 6 - 1 over that happy stretch. Melvin Gordon was the key, going 66 points over his positional average during that span. Pigskin Wizards wrapped up the regular season tied for having the 2nd best record at 9 - 4.
Stacked
Key Stat: Average WR Points/Week: 30.8 BINO WR Points/Week: 40.4
BINO got big efforts from their wide receivers, who put up a best-in-the-league 40.38 points per game. Adam Thielen was the key member of that stalwart corps, scoring 234.8 points for BINO this season. Even with those wide receivers, BINO wound up tied for the 2nd worst regular season record in the league at 4 - 9.
So Close...
Key Stat: The Scullys: 113.45 Rosies Riders: 144.35
The Scullys came so close and yet were so far, winding up in second place. Their season closed with the sour note of a playoff loss to Rosies Riders, but overall they did well enough to end up with a 10 - 6 record. Their good standing can be attributed, in part, to their wide receivers, who ranked 4th in the league.
Bully
Key Stat for Rockland Bruisers: Record Vs. Above 0.500 Teams: 2 - 5 Record Vs. Below 0.500 Teams: 4 - 2
Rockland Bruisers mopped up the bottom dwellers in the league, but struggled big time against top competition. Their inability to come through in tough games doomed them to a 6 - 7 regular season record. Rockland Bruisers were let down by Bilal Powell, Andy Dalton, and Corey Clement, who collectively finished 86.8 points below their positional averages while in the starting lineup.
Better Luck Next Year
Key Stat: Average Team Points per Game (reg. season): 115.9 Salt Water Cowboys Points per Game (reg. season): 98.3
There's always next year for Coach Chris Pitcher. Salt Water Cowboys wound up tied with BINO, CapCity Dragoons, and It Ertz when Eifert for last place with a record of 5 - 10. Coach Pitcher can blame themselves for part of that bad record seeing as they were the 11th ranked gameday coach in the league.
You've Got a 'Tell'
Key Stat for Kardiac Kids: Record When Jared Goff Overperforms: 8 - 0 Record When Jared Goff Underperforms: 1 - 4
It was pretty simple, if Jared Goff had a good game Kardiac Kids weren't losing. Kardiac Kids looked unstoppable when Goff topped his projections, and hopeless when he didn't. Coach Dan Leslie got enough good efforts from Goff to wind up at 9 - 5.
Ownage
Key Stat: THE WHIPPER: 300.1 points It Ertz when Eifert: 158.1 points
THE WHIPPER did well this year, but never looked as good as when they played It Ertz when Eifert. They played It Ertz when Eifert two times, and ended up winning both games easily. The cumulative margin of victory, at 142 points, represents the largest spread between any two teams this year.
Knowing the Role
Key Stat for Rickle's Pickles: Average Tight End Points Per Game: 9.1 Travis Kelce Points Per Game Started: 16.7
Rickle's Pickles leaned on Travis Kelce all year, as he was the league's best tight end, scoring 234.4 points. Kelce's best game came in week 13, when he put up 32.8 points in leading Rickle's Pickles to victory over It Ertz when Eifert. Despite his performance this year, Rickle's Pickles wound up tied for 8th place during the regular season with a 5 - 8 record.
Nobody Does It Better
Key Stat: Rosies Riders: 144.35 The Scullys: 113.45
When it is all said and done, Coach Brent rose will have the bragging rights for this entire offseason. Rosies Riders finished off 2018 with a 144.35 to 113.45 victory over The Scullys, giving them a 12 - 4 final record. Robert Woods contributed 25.4 points in the big win.
Problem Children
Key Stat: Average WR Points/Week: 30.8 CapCity Dragoons WR Points/Week: 18.4
CapCity Dragoons struggled to find the right mix with their wide receivers, who averaged only 18.43 points per game. That was worse than any other team this year. Demaryius Thomas shares a big part of the blame for that lackluster group's performance, averaging 8.1 points in his 10 starts for CapCity Dragoons this year. Overall, CapCity Dragoons finished in 8th place during the regular season with a record of 5 - 8.
Top Heavy
Key Stat: Dirty Hippies Top 3 Players PPA: 252 Dirty Hippies 4-6 Players PPA: 27.8
Dirty Hippies were the most top-heavy squad in the league this year, with a huge gap between their top three players and their next three best starters. The group of Patrick Mahomes, Zach Ertz, and Michael Thomas wound up at +252 Points Vs Positional Average (PPA) while in the starting lineup this year. Their next three best players, Harrison Butker, Joey Bosa, and Jameis Winston, finished up well behind at +27.8 PPA.
Throw That Clipboard
Key Stat: Average Coach's Points: -12.6 Coach Carey Belyea's Points: -61.1
Coach Belyea has plenty of decisions to regret after his lineup choices left him as the worst gameday coach in the league. He ended up costing his team the game in week four with his lineup decisions, which were 33.5 points worse than the experts that week. For the season, It Ertz when Eifert finished with a 4 - 9 regular season record, good for 10th place.
