Proposal – Add Extra Weekly Game vs League Median
Summary
This proposal recommends that the AFFL implement an extra weekly matchup against the league median score, starting with the 2026 season. The rule change is supported by our league platform (Sleeper) and is designed to improve fairness and competitive integrity.
Why This Matters
Under our current format, weekly outcomes are determined solely by head-to-head matchups. This can create scenarios where a team scores one of the highest point totals in a given week — and still loses — while another team posts a low score and wins.
By introducing an automatic second matchup each week against the league median score, we give teams an additional opportunity to earn a win based on performance — not just luck of the draw.
How It Works
- Each week, teams will continue to play one head-to-head matchup as usual.
- In addition, each team will automatically play a second virtual matchup against the median score of all teams for that week.
- Teams that score above the median receive an additional win.
- Teams that score below the median receive an additional loss.
- Weekly records will now be 2-0, 1-1, or 0-2.
Benefits
- ✅ Reduces matchup luck
- ✅ Rewards consistent scoring
- ✅ More accurate standings
- ✅ Keeps more teams engaged throughout the season
Example Scenario
Let's say the median score in Week 4 is 134.5 points.
Team | Score | H2H Result | Median Result | Weekly Record |
---|---|---|---|---|
Team A | 141 | Win | Above Median | 2-0 |
Team B | 128 | Win | Below Median | 1-1 |
Team C | 138 | Loss | Above Median | 1-1 |
Team D | 123 | Loss | Below Median | 0-2 |
Impact on League
- This rule does not affect playoff format or scheduling.
- It will impact standings, rewarding teams that consistently put up high scores.
- Could lead to tighter playoff races and fewer fluke playoff berths.
Proposed Effective Date
This rule would be implemented at the start of the 2026 season.
Voting Procedure
In accordance with §14 of the AFFL Constitution, this rule proposal must follow the standard process:
- The proposal has been submitted by the Commissioner during the regular season.
- The proposal will be presented to the league and open for discussion.
- A formal vote will be initiated no sooner than 48 hours after the proposal is posted.
- All members may vote, with each team receiving one vote.
- A rule change requires a ⅔ majority of active owners to pass.
If passed, this rule will be implemented for the 2026 season.
Closing Statement
The AFFL is one of the most competitive and well-run leagues in fantasy football. This rule change aligns with our goal to reduce luck, reward performance, and make the regular season standings a more accurate reflection of each team's strength.
I encourage all members to support this rule change for the betterment of the league.

TV Guide Page Added
A new TV Guide page has been added to the website.
This tool shows which network is broadcasting each game, making it easier for managers to find where to watch. It is especially helpful for those relying on IPTV or streaming services, where broadcast information is not always obvious.
The page is powered by Live Sports TV Guide, which is currently in beta. This means the service may occasionally be unavailable or display incomplete listings. If the page does not work, contact the commissioner.

Auction 2025 Results
Thank you to all managers for making this year’s auction a success.
The 2025 auction has been completed. You can review the full draft board on Sleeper.

This Sleeper link may disappear over time.
For details about the auction event itself, see the Auction 2025 post.
Trade Review Delay Policy
As commissioner, I am the final arbiter on all trades. However, moving forward, I will be instituting a 24-hour review delay before a trade is officially accepted.
This adjustment serves two purposes:
- Deliberate Review – It allows me time to analyze each trade carefully and ensure it aligns with the integrity and competitiveness of the league.
- League Transparency – It provides members a fair window to raise any reasonable objections or concerns.
All objections or concerns must be relayed to the commissioner privately. This ensures a respectful process and avoids unnecessary public disputes.
This policy is designed to balance efficiency with fairness, ensuring our league remains competitive, transparent, and well-governed.
📖 Note: This rule has been formally integrated into the Constitution, Section 10.1.
Website and Administrative Updates for the 2025 Season
As the Ares Fantasy Football League (AFFL) continues to evolve, we remain committed to refining both the league’s infrastructure and its digital presence. While these latest updates are relatively minor in scope, they contribute to our ongoing effort to create a more professional, secure, and user-friendly experience for all members.
New League Email Address
To streamline communication and maintain a professional standard across league correspondence, we have created a dedicated email address for all league-related matters:
All references to personal email addresses have been removed from the site. This change reduces exposure to spam and protects personal information while providing a consistent point of contact for league communications, trade confirmations, and policy updates.
Site Organization Improvements
Several structural updates have been made to the AFFL website to improve clarity and navigation:
- A new Team Managers section has been added, offering a centralized location for current franchise details and ownership information.
- Minor layout adjustments and content reorganizations have been made to improve the readability and overall flow of the site.
Contracts Page Coming Soon
As we finalize contract submissions for the 2025 season, a new Contracts page will be added under the league info section. This page will serve as a permanent reference for current contract commitments, terms, and team obligations.
This is another step toward increasing transparency, helping managers plan strategically, and preserving the long-term competitive balance of the AFFL.
Continued Commitment to Excellence
While these changes are modest in nature, they reflect our broader commitment to operational excellence and a high standard of professionalism across the league. As always, feedback is welcome. If you encounter issues or have suggestions for future improvements, don’t hesitate to reach out via the new commissioner email.
Here’s to another elite season.
